How to Qualify as a Specialist

The Training and Examinations Board organises and monitors the preparation, examination/assessment and graduation of the Neuro Developmental Treatment Specialist using the following Qualifying Process.

Entry to the Training Course requires a third level qualification in a relevant area.

To Qualify as a Specialist an applicant will be required to:

  1. Attend introductory meeting 1 (2 hours) compulsory  Application Form
  2. Attend introductory meeting 2 (2hours) compulsory
  3. Complete an application form
  4. Attend an interview
  5. Write a 300 word essay at interview
  6. Accept place on Training Programme and sign agreements
  7. Attend all Hands - on Training in Clinic
  8. Attend (100%) and participate in all Lectures
  9. Read all recommended books and research documents
  10. Undergo Suitability to Practise Assessment at the completion of Module 2
  11. Complete all required theses
  12. Complete all practical training assignments
  13. Undertake written examination (pass at 60%)
  14. Complete practical assessments and tests skills (pass at 60%)

On successful completion of the exams/assessments/tests the participant will be permitted to practise as a Trainee for the initial twelve-month period. During this initial twelve-month period the Trainee will acquire all the personal skills necessary for a successful Practice e.g. Communication, Presentation, Business Organisation and Marketing skills.

During this time the Trainee will organise a place of Practice to conduct his/her work. The Trainee will attend all update lectures and supervisory training and assessment tests. At the end of this initial Trainee year the Board of Practice Excellence will audit the Trainee, and if successful, he/she will be granted Specialist status. If the Trainee is not successful he/she will retain Trainee status for a further year and be required to comply with all the requirements of the Trainee Year.
